Excellent, because the sort of people that are pulled in by that title are the sort of people I would like to read also! I could dress the conversation up but like a curtain-deal it's only going to go so far in hiding what is really going on behind it. Pooing in front of passengers might be one way of making sure you get to keep your boat to yourself, but you may no longer have any friends. It's a dilemma isn't it? One reason we are thinking of downsizing the house as well, too many 'friends' think they can avail themselves of the facilities when we live in a holiday destination, long staying guests and boat toilets are high on my list of problems right now!

You pulled me in with the title. This was hilarious. My conversations with my own BF follow these lines, sometimes. We now have two boats (the second of which has its own epic saga). A little wooden fishing john boat, and what I affectionately refer to as The Ditch Boat. Its toilet is not unlike the one pictured here- we just don't have boat beds. It's basically right next to the steering wheel, in full view of where any and all passengers would sit. You use its closed lid as a step to get onto the front portion of the boat. We're still in the gutting stages of the renovation, but if and when she's ever sea worthy (or Lake-worthy, considering our location), I plan to rig up some sort of curtain-deal. Our friends are all Very Interested in having friend that have a nice, big boat. We will have passengers. I will not poo in front of them.

I've not had pesto for ages, so that's a good tip. I need to grow some basil though. Too expensive to buy :( I'm growing chillies too and I always get my neighbours chillies as he grows them for appearance but doesn't like eating them :D

I've got a lemon tree, well sapling, and a couple of baby olive trees too. One of them was in flower, so fingers crossed I may get one or two olives this year. I need to grow some more herbs, they are such a rip-off to buy. The Moroccan shops in Gib are the best source of mint, coriander and parsley as you get a huuuuuge bunch. Trouble is that it is so huge every meal ends up with some thrown in or it goes to waste. I've got some mint rooting on the windowsill at the moment. Not literally, it's in a little container and some water, so will plant that out at some point.

I never buy soup mix. Not much point when I've also got everything in the cupboard too.

Don't use grains, Partner isn't keen on that sort of food. I did buy quinoa once, not sure I ever cooked it! He hates couscous.

Shoyu is a type of soy sauce, as is tamari. There is another, the name of which I forget, but I prefer shoyu although will buy tamari when shoyu isn't available.

There is a Spanish firm that does veg organic mortadella and salami. Pic of the mortadella here:
http://wp.me/p1XwsS-6Z
Very good, I doubt they will be in Aus, but there must be something similar.

I use an organic soya milk. I like it because it's not sweet and I've not tried the other drinks eg almond, rice etc. Are you looking for thickness or taste? I've made cocoa with soya milk and it was fine for me - but as I say, I don't do sweet. I've used soy on the rare occasion I've made cappucino and it worked fine.

When you finish browsing the recipes, here are a couple of posts about fish ...

Yep, no cheese, just olive oil, (always Extra Virgin!) fresh basil, garlic, splash of lemon juice and blanched almonds, all smushed and smashed quite roughly in a pestle and mortar. I used to buy jars of pesto but found I never seemed to use it up so now I just make a bit at a time and keep it in the fridge. I am sooooooooo miserly Yorkshire-ish still! I'm growing chillies, ginger, peppers, limes and lemongrass in the garden because its easy and I begrudge the cost of buying them, and I've just been debating in the supermarket this morning about a $2 pack of 'soup mix' because I realised I had pretty much all the dried beans and pulses that were in it in my pantry already! What a tight wad!! I have a routine now of soaking my beans/chickpeas on Thursdays and cooking them up and my grains (like Quinoa, buckwheat etc) on Fridays and then use them up over the week. I haven't tried tempeh but it sounds like it would be something I'd use so thankyou for the recommendation! Australian supermarkets are pretty good for stocking tofus, quorn products etc and we have lots of Asian supermarkets which tend to have a leaning towards vegetarian diets I find. What is shoyu though? We have silver beet and spinach, and lots of Asian greens, and really nice little yellow squashes, lots of mushroom varieties as well, much more choice than I remember ever having in supermarkets in the UK (like Morrisons, Asda et al). Meat wise, I guess I miss chorizio the most, I used to make a lot of rice and pasta dishes with that as my stable flavour ingredient! I'm currently scouring vegan blogs to find a milk substitute that I can make my winter Ovaltine and Hot chocolate with! I don't mind soy in smoothies but not in hot drinks, and I tried almond milk to make a latte with but it seemed to kind of separate on heating. I wouldn't be able to give up eggs, cheese, yoghurt or seafood permanently so I doubt I'm ever going to get to vegan status, but I'm still pretty proud of my efforts this far to stay away from meat. The Big Fella is making himself a mushroom/vegetarian meal this weekend, which is a significant step in our household..........he's your typical meat and veg man but is gradually coming round to the idea of at least substituting some of his meat with veg options at last :)

Do you make the pesto without cheese? I only ask because you describe it as a vegan-depend-on. I cook all my pulses from raw, apart from the fact they taste better they are also significantly cheaper (she says Yorkshireishly with her hands locked tightly on her purse). I learned quite a lot of recipes from my Spanish neighbours and one of the good ones for chickpeas is to use spinach or acelga (think it is spinach beet in english), anyway, either will do, and whatever other veg you want to chuck in a pan.

If you are lusting after bacon, have you tried tempeh? There are tempeh rashers available as well, but I tend to make my own by marinading them in shoyu for a while. Redwood are the ones who do the good slices, they may be available in Aus and their product range is very good. There are also Quorn rashers too, but I'm not so keen on them, and not so keen on Quorn products either.

We started our non-meat eating days by chucking meat and chicken, but the fish and seafood went too in the end. There are posts about being vegetarian on Clouds (i've got a category for it), and recipe pages on roughseas on the top bar.

And I only ever use EVOO. Costs between €10 and €13 depending on whether I get it on special (five litre bottle).
